How to use the Time Duration Calculator

  1. Enter the start and end clock times.
  2. Turn on next day when the interval crosses midnight.
  3. Enter any break that should be subtracted from the elapsed time.

Clock arithmetic in whole minutes

Each time is converted to minutes after midnight. An overnight interval adds 1,440 minutes to the end before subtraction. The break is removed last, and both total minutes and decimal hours are shown.

The result does not decide paid-break rules, overtime eligibility or employer rounding policy.

With your numbers

  1. Elapsed time from 09:00 to 17:30 = 510 minutes
  2. Net duration = 510 − 30 = 480 minutes

Quick reference

Common questions about the Time Duration Calculator

How do I calculate an overnight interval?
Turn on End is on the next day. A 22:00 start and 06:00 end then spans eight hours.
Does this apply timesheet rounding?
No. It uses the exact entered minutes and subtracts the exact entered break.
Why can an end time be invalid?
Without the next-day option, an earlier end time would imply a negative same-day interval.
