How to use the Date Difference Calculator

  1. Enter the two calendar dates you want to compare.
  2. Keep the order meaningful if you want the direction label to describe the sequence.
  3. Use elapsed days for a fixed count and the calendar span for anniversaries.

Two useful meanings of difference

Elapsed days count midnight-to-midnight steps. Calendar difference instead takes complete years, then complete months and the remaining days. From January 31 to February 28 is 28 elapsed days but one calendar month under the documented clamping rule.

The calculation uses integer calendar-day numbers, so daylight-saving changes never turn one date into a 23-hour or 25-hour day.

With your numbers

  1. 2024-02-29 to 2026-09-20 spans 2 years, 6 months, 23 days
  2. 934 elapsed days = 133 whole weeks and 3 days

Common questions about the Date Difference Calculator

Why do calendar months and elapsed days differ?
Months range from 28 to 31 days. A calendar span preserves year and month boundaries instead of replacing every month with an average.
Are both endpoint dates counted?
Elapsed days measures the distance between the dates. Equal dates are zero days apart. Use Business Days when an inclusive working-day count is needed.
Can the end date be earlier?
Yes. The magnitude remains positive while the direction row states that the end is before the start.
