Borrowing and saving are the same arithmetic run in opposite directions, and most of the confusion comes from what a quoted rate actually means. An annual rate divided across twelve monthly periods is not an effective annual rate, a lower payment is not always a lower total cost, and a minimum payment that only covers the month's interest never clears a balance at all. These calculators use only the amounts, rates and terms you enter, run the schedule in whole cents the way a lender does, and show the totals you could reconcile against a statement. They quote no rates, recommend no products and decide nobody's eligibility for anything.
