Time Zone Converter
Convert a local date and time between named IANA time zones.
Result
Converted time: 2026-03-08 06:30 GMT
Timezone rules are political and can change. Ambiguous fall-back times use the earlier occurrence; nonexistent spring-forward times are reported explicitly.
- Source time
- 2026-03-08 01:30 EST
- Same instant in UTC

How to use the Time Zone Converter
- Enter the local calendar date and clock time at the source.
- Choose named source and destination time zones.
- Read the same instant in the destination zone and in UTC.
Named zones instead of fixed offsets
A city’s UTC offset can change with daylight saving or a government decision. The converter therefore uses IANA identifiers such as America/New_York and Asia/Kolkata, then asks the runtime timezone database for the rule on the selected date.
Timezone data arrives with the browser or server rather than from a CalcGallery network request. Very recent political changes may require a software update before every device agrees.
With your numbers
- Interpret 2026-03-08 01:30 in America/New_York
- The same instant is 2026-03-08 06:30 UTC and 2026-03-08 06:30 GMT
Quick reference
Timezone rules are political and can change. Ambiguous fall-back times use the earlier occurrence; nonexistent spring-forward times are reported explicitly.

Common questions about the Time Zone Converter
- Does this account for daylight-saving time?
- Yes. Named IANA zones apply the offset rule for the entered date rather than assuming one fixed offset all year.
- What happens during the spring-forward gap?
- A local time skipped by the source-zone clock is reported as nonexistent instead of being shifted silently.
- Which occurrence is used when a fall-back time repeats?
- The earlier of the two matching instants is used. Confirm critical schedules when the source time is inside a repeated hour.
