Sports statistics

Batting average, OBP, SLG and OPS, ERA and WHIP, Elo and FIDE rating changes, NFL passer rating and bowling scores, by each sport's own rules.

Every statistic here is defined by the body that keeps it, and each page follows that definition rather than a simplified version. Batting and pitching rates come from rule 9.21 of the Official Baseball Rules, which is why sacrifice flies count against on-base percentage but not batting average, and why innings are counted in thirds. Passer rating is the NFL's own four-part formula from its Record & Fact Book, each part capped at 2.375. Chess ratings can be worked out two ways, the logistic Elo formula used by many federations and FIDE's own table with its 400-point rule, and the page lets you pick. Bowling follows the USBC rules for strikes, spares and the tenth frame. The results are exact arithmetic on the numbers you enter. None of the pages says what counts as a good figure.
