Common questions about the TFSA Contribution Room Calculator 2026

How much is the TFSA limit for 2026?
$7,000, the same as 2024 and 2025. Someone who has been 18 or older and resident in Canada every year since the TFSA began in 2009 has $109,000 of room in total if they have never contributed.
When does TFSA room start?
In the year you turn 18 and are resident in Canada, whichever comes later, and not before 2009. You don't have to open an account for the room to build up.
How do withdrawals affect my room?
A withdrawal is added back to your room on 1 January of the next year. Withdrawing and recontributing in the same year can cause an over-contribution, which is taxed at 1% a month.
How are the yearly limits set?
The limit is indexed to inflation and rounded to the nearest $500, which is why it moves in steps: $5,000 from 2009, $5,500 in 2013, $10,000 for 2015 only, back to $5,500, then $6,000, $6,500 and $7,000.
