How to use the EPF Calculator
- Enter your basic pay plus dearness allowance a month. That is the PF wage your contributions are worked out on.
- Enter your age, the age you will retire at and your EPF balance today, from the EPFO passbook.
- Enter the yearly pay rise you expect, and whether your employer contributes on your full pay or only up to the ₹25,000 ceiling.
- Read the balance at retirement and how this month's contributions split between EPF and the pension scheme.
The calculation
The page runs your EPF account forward month by month to retirement. Each month the contributions on that year’s pay go in, and interest builds up on the balance. Once a year the interest is added, and the next year’s pay rise starts.
your contribution = 12% × PF wagespension scheme (EPS) = 8.33% × smaller of (pay, ₹25,000), to the rupeeemployer to EPF = 12% × PF wages − EPSinterest each month = balance × rate ÷ 12, added each year
Which pay counts
PF wages are basic pay plus dearness allowance. Under the Code on Social Security, if allowances are more than half of your total pay, the excess is added back into wages, which can raise your PF contributions. Check the PF wage on your payslip and use that.
With your numbers
- You put in 12% of pay; your employer puts in 12%, of which 8.33% of pay up to ₹25,000 goes to the pension scheme
- Interest is worked out monthly on the running balance and added once a year
Quick reference
Assumes today’s rate every year and no withdrawals. The pension scheme share builds a pension, not this balance.

Common questions about the EPF Calculator
- How much goes into EPF each month?
- You contribute 12% of your basic pay and dearness allowance. Your employer also contributes 12%, but 8.33% of pay up to the wage ceiling goes to the Employees' Pension Scheme instead of your EPF account. On pay of ₹25,000 or more that is ₹2,083 a month to the pension scheme, and the rest of the employer's 12% goes to EPF.
- What is the new ₹25,000 wage ceiling?
- From 17 September 2026 the wage ceiling rose from ₹15,000 to ₹25,000 a month. It caps the pension scheme share, which went up from ₹1,250 to ₹2,083 a month, and it decides who must join EPF. Employers can still contribute on pay above the ceiling, and many do.
- How is EPF interest calculated?
- At a twelfth of the yearly rate each month on the running balance, added to the account once a year. A month's contribution, paid the following month, earns interest from then. The rate for 2025-26 was 8.25%, and each year's rate is declared after the year ends. The page assumes 8.25% for every future year.
- Why isn't the pension scheme share in the balance?
- The Employees' Pension Scheme pays a monthly pension worked out from your pensionable salary and years of service, not a balance you can withdraw. The page shows how much goes into it so the employer's contribution adds up to 12%.
- Is EPF tax-free?
- Your contributions count toward the savings deduction under the old tax regime. Interest is tax-free except on your own contributions above ₹2.5 lakh a year. Withdrawals after five years of continuous service are tax-free.
