How to use the Nepali Date Converter
- Choose whether you are converting an English (AD) date to Nepali (BS) or a Nepali date to English.
- Enter the date. For a Nepali date pick the year, the month and the day.
- Read the converted date and the weekday.
How the calendar works
Bikram Sambat is a solar calendar. Its twelve months, Baisakh to Chaitra, begin when the sun enters each sign of the zodiac as calculated by traditional astronomy. That makes them between 29 and 32 days long, and the pattern is not the same from one year to the next. There is no simple rule that gives the lengths, so every converter works from a table.
Where the table comes from
The page reads the month lengths for 2000 to 2087 BS from a table that agrees with five open datasets and with dates the Nepal government and Hamro Patro have published. It is pinned to 1 Baisakh 2000 BS = 14 April 1943 and checked against dates such as these:
| Nepali date | English date |
|---|---|
| 3 Asoj 2072 (Constitution Day) | 20 September 2015 |
| 1 Baisakh 2080 | 14 April 2023 |
| 1 Baisakh 2083 | 14 April 2026 |
| 1 Kartik 2083 | 18 October 2026 |
Converting
To go from BS to AD the page adds up the days in every month before your date, counting from 1 Baisakh 2000, then adds that count to 14 April 1943. To go from AD to BS it works the same count backwards. The weekday comes from the same day count, so it always matches the English date.
Limits
The table runs to 2087 BS. Month lengths after 2083 BS are provisional and may move by a day when the calendar committee publishes the official panchang. For religious dates such as festivals, follow your local panchang.
With your numbers
- Bikram Sambat months run 29 to 32 days, set each year in advance, so the page reads them from a table

Common questions about the Nepali Date Converter
- How do I convert a date from AD to BS?
- Bikram Sambat runs about 56 years and 8 months ahead of the Gregorian calendar, but the months do not start on fixed dates, so a simple offset is not enough. The page counts days from 1 Baisakh 2000 BS, which was 14 April 1943, through a table of every month's length.
- When is Nepali New Year?
- On 1 Baisakh, which falls on 13 or 14 April. 1 Baisakh 2083 was 14 April 2026.
- Why do Nepali months have 29 to 32 days?
- Each month follows the sun's movement into a zodiac sign, and the time the sun takes varies through the year. The month lengths are fixed in advance by Nepal's calendar committee and change from year to year.
- What date range does the converter cover?
- From 2000 BS to 2087 BS, which is April 1943 to April 2031. Years after 2083 BS are provisional until the calendar committee publishes them, and the page says so.
- When does the Nepali fiscal year start?
- On 1 Shrawan, in mid-July. 1 Shrawan 2083 was 17 July 2026.
