How to use the Statutory Maternity Pay Calculator 2026/27
- Enter your average weekly earnings before tax. Your employer works it out from the eight weeks or so before the 15th week before the baby is due.
- Read what you get each week in the first six weeks and the next 33, and the total.
The calculation
SMP has two rates. For the first six weeks it follows your earnings. After that it is a flat weekly amount, unless 90% of your earnings is lower.
weeks 1–6 90% × average weekly earnings, fractions of a penny rounded upweeks 7–39 the lower of £194.32 and the weeks 1–6 ratetotal 6 × first rate + 33 × second rate
The flat rate usually rises each April, so if your leave runs past April 2027 the later weeks will be paid at the new rate.
With your numbers
