How to use the Salary Converter
- Enter a gross pay amount and choose whether it is hourly, weekly, biweekly, semimonthly, monthly or annual.
- Set the hours you normally work each week and the number of paid weeks in the year.
- Compare the annual, monthly, pay-period and hourly gross equivalents.
How it is calculated
Every rate is first put on one annual basis. Hourly pay uses the schedule you enter:
annual gross pay = hourly rate × hours per week × paid weeks per year
Other rates use their number of payroll periods: 52 weekly, 26 biweekly, 24 semimonthly and 12 monthly periods. Those period counts follow the table used in IRS Publication 15-T. Once annual pay is known, dividing it by another period count gives a directly comparable gross rate.
Gross pay, not take-home pay
The result deliberately stops before taxes and deductions. Income tax depends on jurisdiction, filing details and the tax year. Benefits and retirement deductions depend on the employer plan. Guessing any of them from salary alone would make a neat-looking answer less trustworthy.
For US withholding, use the IRS Tax Withholding Estimator and enter the resulting amount in the future paycheck calculator. The Salary converter is for comparing rates on the same gross basis.
The assumptions that change the answer
Paid weeks matter for hourly work. A 40-hour schedule at $30 an hour is $62,400 across 52 paid weeks but $57,600 across 48. Paid vacation belongs in the count; unpaid leave does not.
Hours matter when converting salary back to hourly. Two jobs with the same annual salary do not have the same hourly value when one regularly takes 35 hours a week and the other takes 50.
Biweekly is not semimonthly. Biweekly payroll produces two months with a third paycheck in most years. Semimonthly payroll produces exactly two checks each month. Their annual totals can match while individual checks differ.
Irregular earnings belong elsewhere. Overtime, commissions and bonuses are not spread into this conversion because they may not recur. Add them only when comparing a scenario that genuinely expects them.
With your numbers
- Monthly gross equivalent = $62,400.00 ÷ 12 = $5,200.00
- Hourly gross equivalent = $62,400.00 ÷ 2,080 paid hours = $30.00
- Annual gross pay = $30.00 × 40 hours × 52 paid weeks = $62,400.00

Common questions about the Salary Converter
- How do I convert hourly pay to annual salary?
- Multiply the hourly rate by paid hours per week and paid weeks per year. At $30 an hour, 40 hours a week and 50 paid weeks, gross annual pay is $60,000.
- What is the difference between biweekly and semimonthly pay?
- Biweekly means every two weeks, normally 26 payments a year. Semimonthly means twice a month, normally 24 payments. The amount per payment differs even when annual pay is the same.
- Should paid vacation count as a paid week?
- Yes, when you are paid your normal wages during that leave. Subtract only weeks for which you receive no pay. The calculator keeps this assumption visible so hourly annualisation does not quietly assume 52 paid weeks.
- Does this show take-home pay?
- No. Every result is gross pay before taxes, insurance, retirement contributions and other deductions. Use the paycheck calculator once it is available to reconcile entered deductions.
- Why is monthly pay not weekly pay multiplied by four?
- A year has 52 weeks but only 12 months. The average month is about 4.33 weeks, so multiplying weekly pay by four understates the monthly equivalent.
- Does changing currency convert the value?
- No. The region selects how the amount is labelled and formatted. CalcGallery does not fetch exchange rates, so the number always remains the pay amount you entered.
