How to use the Advance Tax Calculator 2026-27

  1. Enter your estimated tax for 2026-27 after TDS and TCS.
  2. Enter how much you had paid in total by each due date, adding up the instalments as you go.
  3. Enter the number of months from April to the month you pay the rest, usually with your return.
  4. Read the interest for paying late or too little, and what was due by each date.

The instalments

The Income-tax Act, 2025 spreads the year’s tax over four dates. The amounts are cumulative, so by 15 September you should have paid 45% in total, not 45% more.

Due byTotal paid
15 June15%
15 September45%
15 December75%
15 March100%

Interest for deferment

For each date the page works out the shortfall: what was due less what you had paid, rounded down to ₹100. It charges 3% of the June, September and December shortfalls and 1% of the March one. June is skipped if you had paid 12% and September if you had paid 36%.

With ₹1,00,000 of tax, nothing paid in June, ₹30,000 by September, ₹60,000 by December and the full amount by March, the shortfalls are ₹15,000 each time to December. That is ₹450 three times, ₹1,350 in all.

Interest for default

If what you paid by 31 March is less than 90% of the tax, the unpaid tax, rounded down to ₹100, carries 1% a month from April. Pay it with a return in July and that is four months. With ₹50,000 of tax and nothing paid, that is ₹2,000 on top of ₹2,525 for deferment.

Limits

The page uses one figure for the year’s tax. Shortfalls caused by capital gains or dividends you could not foresee are excused if you pay in the next instalments; the page does not apply that relief. Interest is also charged on any tax still due after a reassessment, which is not covered.

With your numbers

  1. Deferment interest is 3% of each quarterly shortfall and 1% for March
  2. Default interest is 1% a month from April if less than 90% was paid by 31 March

Quick reference

Presumptive-income taxpayers may pay all advance tax by 15 March. Shortfalls from unexpected capital gains or dividends can be excused if paid in later instalments.
