How to use it
- Add each rectangular floor or section as a separate row.
- Enter the number of coats in the chosen coating system.
- Enter the coverage per kit per coat from the exact product label.
- Add a custom allowance for the substrate and read the whole-kit result.
How it is calculated
Every entered rectangle is summed before coats and the allowance are applied:
Coated area = floor area × coats
Order coverage = coated area × (1 + allowance)
Kits = ceil(order coverage ÷ label coverage per kit per coat)
Coverage is deliberately user-entered because formulation, film thickness and substrate condition change it materially.
Product and surface checks
Read the complete coating system. Primer, colour coat, flakes or aggregate, and clear topcoat may each need a separate quantity calculation.
Prepare the substrate. Moisture, contamination and inadequate surface profile are common coating failures. Follow the manufacturer’s preparation and testing instructions.
Respect pot life and recoat windows. Temperature changes working time. Do not use this quantity result as a mixing or scheduling instruction.
Use the specified protection. Ventilation and personal protective equipment requirements come from the current safety data and product sheets.
With your numbers
- Coated area = 400 ft² × 2 coats = 800 ft²
- With 0% extra = 800 ft²
- That coverage ÷ 250 ft² per kit, rounded up to 4 kits
Quick reference
No extra is added by default. Use Custom for porous concrete, texture, roller loss or the product guidance for your substrate.
| Job | Coating kits to buy |
|---|---|
| 200 ft², 2 coats | 2 |
| 400 ft² garage, 2 coats | 4 |
| Two 200 ft² sections | 4 |
| 600 ft², 1 coat | 3 |
| 25 m², 2 coats | 2 |
| 36 m², 2 coats | 3 |
Common questions
- How many epoxy kits for a 400 square foot garage?
- For two coats at 250 ft² per kit per coat, 400 ft² needs 800 ft² of labelled coverage. With 10% extra, 880 ft² rounds up to 4 kits.
- Is primer included?
- Only if the exact product label says it is. Primer, build coat, broadcast layer and topcoat often have different products and coverage rates.
- Why does concrete condition affect coverage?
- Porous, profiled or damaged concrete can absorb or hold more material than a smooth sealed test surface. Use the manufacturer’s rate for your substrate.
- Can leftover mixed epoxy be saved?
- Usually not. Two-part coatings have a limited pot life after mixing. Plan batch sizes and application timing from the product instructions.
